A Chinese man has abstained from making love to his wife for 17 years because he wants to live forever.

Chen Dong, of Chongqing city, who is in his 50s, changed his way of living after a colleague told him he would live for 1,000 years if he became a celibate, vegetarian.

"He believed it completely, and since 1989 he has had me prepare him only vegetarian meals, and stopped living with me in the same room," says his wife Yu Hui.

Chen believes he has found the secret of eternal life.

"Simple meals can clean my body, and an asexual life can keep my energy from becoming depleted," he told Chongqing Business News.

Chen has now been granted a divorce, saying he wants a quiet life, but has been ordered to pay his wife £5,000 compensation.

I think that is very extreme. Yes it is true that if you eat healthy and abstain from harmful activity, then you will be more likely to have a longer life, but nothing is forever. You could be hit by a bus or have a freak accident. Then What! Are You are going to abstain from having fun only to loose your life early anyway. No one really knows what the future will bring. I agree that we should all be carefull and try to live healthy, but there is no reason to be extremely strict on yourself. Taking some things away can actually make you unhappy and unhealthy in the long run.

The United Nations and the European Union recognize sexual activity as what people do, sexuality as WHAT WE ARE, it is what we are biologically, genetically programmed to do. This is what has led our species to evolve to it's current state. The UN and the EU also recognize consensual sexuality as a basic human right for all individuals, a right that when infringed equals oppression.
Similar to lets say, freedom. Can you live without freedom? Yes, but you would be miserable (even if you kept it buried deep down in your sub-conscious). And yes, some people choose to remain celebate, but this is no different than pointing out that some women --choose-- not to eat, it's called anorexia, but it does not mean it is healthy.

There is a HUGE stigma with the word disability, surrounded by ignorance and hypocracy. The same way we're generally overlooked and viewed as defective people, is the EXACT same mentality that lead the american forfathers to oppress blacks and native americans, ie "they have a weak constitution for independence". Society deems us as perenial 5 yrs olds and decides we can't be independent adults. Even "caregivers" or "advocacy" personnel see us more as charity cases than human beings.
