No one got sick from the water as it smelled so bad no one would drink it. A serious problem in California since we haven't had a propper winter in years is that the water table thoughout much of California has dropped and wells are going to have to drilled deeper which cost about $2,000.00 a foot.
The town I live in is going to have to drill 28 new wells and errect a new and lager water storage tank for the expanding population. That's one reason I am in favorite of limited growth. All the new housing developments are required to have "catch basin" in them which translates into parks that are built at least 3 feet below street level.
Many farms have been doing this since the drought of 1977-78 and it has also be instigated in order to catch water run off from field that catch irrigation water and water from stock fields.
