I really need some feedback on this one!

I posted a small ad on a yahoo group a week ago. I said that i was looking for someone to help me with website design and photos. Some guy e-mailed me, claiming that he was a web designer and photographer. He e-mailed me his work. He sent me some home pages of sites that he supposedly designed and 3 pictures of the same girl in some sleezy looking hotel. We chatted for a while then he said that I had to sleep with him for some of the pictures if I decided to work with him. I said that I didnt know I had to sleep with him. He told me that it was normal and that all his customers sleep with him. He sounds like a flake and his work was not that good. He doesnt present a professional image either. I really think he is just some freelancer looking for a hook up. I have decided against using him for now. I am going to stick with my friends or a willing client.
I have thought about trading service for things I really need, but not pictures.

I am not a "professional" photographer but I have had many of the pictures I have taken printed in news papers and magazines.
If some one comes up with a story like this start asking him about cameras. I have one Pentax K1000, it is a metal bodied camera and uses 35mm film. I have 4 lenses for that one camera. I also have a Cannon 9.5 megapixel digital camera, for this camera I have 3 lenses and I also have my "cheap" camera a Nikon 5 megapix digital camera. It has one fixed lens. A real photog will tell you all the information he knows about his camera's and lenses. Ask what kind of lighting. Most photogs use difused lights when taking photographs. Direct lighting causes red eyes and over exposes the subject. What type of flash does he use? Is it built in, accessory mounted or hand held off mount.
What speed and apature does he use when taking pictures. If he says the same one for all pics he's a fake. What type of light meter does he use, how many readings does he take. He should take one of the subject and as many as 3 for the background.
I have taken picture of battle grounds during combat, made surfing films, pictuers of people and buildings (some govt officals have bought) that were being restored. Pictures skiing and SCUBA diving both during the day and night. People say I take fantastic pictures and some times I do but they don't see all the ones I toss!
Good luck.

Oh Paul, All that camera talk is making me hot. Digital photography is one of my hobbies. Love hearing the stats on digital cameras. I call it techno-lust. :-}

Leyla, was the photographer/web designer's name by any chance, KC? This guy came to me with a similar $/services deal when I started out.

There is a free site where you can make a fairly professional looking boiler-plate type website called rare-escort.com. http://rare-escorts.com/ They have a pretty good set up with all the links you need. It grows with you as you are ready. I've been organizing my info here as I sort out my policies. Now I'm ready to pay to customize it a bit with my own banner and such.
This is mine to get an idea of what I'm talking about. (Not advertising here. Just showing site as a demo.)

If you live in or around Seattle, I know a couple of photographers who may be able to help you out.

Hope this helps.

Take care,
Leslie

Just an idea. You might want to check with a local college about photography classes, it might be possible to find a female student who would be willing to take your photos and you might be able to get it done for free. Students are required to take a number of different types of photos for their classes, it might be worth the time.

Hey Leslie,

Yes, That is who I currently have my website with. I am planning on using another website designer and hosting once I have the proper funds. I have seen a lot of websites that I love. My site is currently pretty neat. I am satisfied with it. Well I am in New Jersey. So if there are any photographers that are willing to come to NJ then I am game.

Paul,

I have thought about that several times. I actually have a girlfriend who took photography classes last semester. I was thinking about asking her. But i am too shy to ask a college student. But maybe I should try that.

thanks
